Did you know that infants (0-23 months) spend up to 66% of their days sleeping?!
Even babies who sleep less… and I get it mamas… Alessi is one of those wakeful babies (hello sleep deprivation!)… spend A LOT of time sleeping. This also means they spend a lot of time with sleep products, like cribs, mattresses, mattress pads, sheets, sleep sacks, pjs, and maybe others.
The scary truth about these products though mama, is that they are filled with toxins, from biologics to chemicals. And our infants and tiny humans are much more susceptible to harm from these environmental toxin exposures!
Here’s a bit of info about these toxins:
They are in everything – from mattresses, to bedding, to clothing, and more.
Big concerns include – flame retardants, VOCs (volatile organic carbons), and biologics (like mold and bacteria).
Here are some of the things you can do now for FREE to decrease these toxins in and around your babies sleep environment:
- Open windows when possible to allow any potential airborne toxins to be diluted.
- Dust! Dust mites harbor and trap VOCs and other toxins.
Here are some steps you can implement in the future when possible:
- Buy new mattresses for each child – Toxins accumulate in mattresses and exist at much higher levels in used mattresses.
- Look for furniture that was manufactured and finished with low to no VOCs, BPA, or is GreenGuard Gold certified.
I hope these quick tips helped you feel empowered about the conscious decisions you can make regarding toxin exposures in your baby’s sleep environment!
